    LODD - Past Chief Raymond Barrett West Milford -Apshawa Co # 1

    Raymond Barrett, 62, of West Milford, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 while volunteering with the Apshawa Fire Company #1, fighting a home fire in West Milford.

    Born in Bloomingdale, Raymond was the son of the late John and the late Sarah (nee Parker) Barrett.

    He served in the Army and was stationed in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 in the 2nd Batallion 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One). He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge and other State and County Medals. He was also a member of the Walkill Valley Vietnam Veterans of America.

    Raymond was also a 30 year volunteer and former Chief of the Apshawa Volunteer Fire Company #1.

    Raymond is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine (nee Struble); his sons, Wayne of West Milford and Tim of Newburgh, NY; his granddaughter, Sarah; his brothers, Robert of Whiting, Kenneth of Bloomingdale and Charles of Pompton Lakes; and his sisters, Olive Marion, Joyce Dorman and Joan Lis, all of Pennsylvania.

    He was predeceased by his parents, John and Sarah; his brothers, John, Ralph, William, and Phillip; and his sister, Josephine.

    A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Echo Lake Baptist Church, 1355 Macopin Road, West Milford. Interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery in Arneytown. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

    In lieu of flowers, donations to the Family and Friends for Freedom Fund, 40 Woodland Place, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444 would be greatly appreciated.
