Quite a few of the departments around there are career. (i.e. Kent, Stow, Cuy. Falls, Ravenna City)
If he wants to volunteer somewhere, I would look into Brimfield, Ravenna Township, Hudson, Mogadore, and Streetsboro.
TFDNick may be able to give you some additional info.

Streetsboro just gave a PT test a few weeks ago.
Hudson EMS gave a test last week.
Ravenna Twp looks like they hire 240/medics but its worth looking into.
I would look at Brimfield, Rootstown, Brady Lake, Mogadore, Munroe Falls, and Suffield. It just kind of depends on what hes looking for (shift work or running call backs) and where he is going to live.

I think Brimfield just hired a bunch of part timers late last year, but its worth checking into I guess.
Boston township maybe, but I think you have to live in the city limits.
Seems like there aren't too many volunteer depts until you get a bit further south - like southwest of canton maybe.
This area is just full of paramedics/240's. Its hard to compete if you're not.

What about the concept that boy child is attending college to get a DEGREE, not run calls?

(different story if he intends to help pay his own way by working a part-time FD job, of course...)No good deed goes unpunished
