And here I thought you guys were the not-quite-ready-for-local-access-cable version of the ATHF...
My opinions might coincide with someone of importance's POV... I wouldn't know, since I never bothered to ask. My policy is: "Don't ask, don't care."

    Same difference :P

I don't know what to say to that. I'm not the best, but I'm not the worst. We'll leave it at that.

Excuse me, I'm a bit confused, but is this the thread discussing whether or not Juniors should be equal to, if not greater than, senior FFs?

    Couldn't resist!!!
These are my opinions, not those of my career department, my volunteer company, or my affiliates. And by the way, I'm not a Junior.

Buy me a drink, sing me a song, take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long.

    Emergency lights, sirens, or responding
    Power tools on scene
    Rank
    Or whining.

Ask smart questions. I can care less what kind of LEDs you have on your new Super Duper QUINT/Tanker/Heavy Resq, and I will probably make fun of you. But, you want to learn about ropes and knots, why you use a large calibur line, bunker gear donning tips, SCBA donning tips, or something that will help you develop yourself, ask away.
I agree with everything other than the radio part. I train all our explorers to be just as proficient and useful on the radio as any other firefighter. With that, an explorer can carry out a fireground support function that may entail speaking on the radio. This can range from traffic control to simply retrieving equipment. They don't speak unless spoken to. But if they are given a task that requires communication, they can and will do it well.

Not sure why rank is bad thing. Each year they elect a president and vice president. Those two are responsible for the day-to-day business of the explorer post. They are responsible for communicating upcoming drills and activities, head-counts, keeping the group on-task at drills, and planning fund raising. They are generally the two most knowledgeable of the equipment and operations. They don't really have authority for anything on scene since everyone falls under standard ICS anyway.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

    Lightbulb well since you asked

what is a good way to "get on" with the guys at a house near me?
    do I call?
    walk in one day?
say "hey, I know a guy who rolls for 33rd truck on cactus and 32nd
    and he said"...
Forgive me my ignorance, I just know If you want to talk to a soldier, you don't just stroll on the base range and start slinging (bull that is)
you see I am well aware that I only stand to gain practical knowledge with a question, as most often the issue isn't your lights, of radio (or in my case combat sight rail, boot shank or entrenching tool ) its most often you, your sitch and how you handle it.
    anyway thats my question.

you guys should come my way.

Juniors round me do a lot. Everything but going into a burning building.
Ive been officer on truck before.
ive been a nozzleman on a fire (exterior)
ive even cut a car with the jaws of life.

do you other juniors train with your senior members? we do all the same training, all the same classes. (unless fire inside a building is involved)

If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?
