After doing some soul searching I've decided not to get into firefighting full time. I'd love to do it but I have a bad back, and I really don't care for the EMS portion of the job (after doing EMS for several years).
What are, if any, the more administrative jobs within the fire department that one could get hired onto? What type of degree is required for these jobs (fire science, public administration, etc)?

Fire Marshals, Fire Inspectors or Fire and Life Safety Educators. Some places lump all three into the same job or will hire for each one. It's something to look into at least.
