Matt,
I know someone who works at Vandenburg as a Fire Fighter. Her email is firenmarine@verison.net (i think) and she will answer all your questions. If that email does not work, email me at ylengine210@yahoo.com. My internet keeps debugging and shutting down. Just tell her Kevin from Plant 42 gave you her email.
They have 7 stations, that much I know.
Did you ever make any head way with the Chiefs at Vandenberg as far as getting them to hire you?
How far is Whitney and Pratt from Laurel, MD? I might need a job soon.
Kevin

I worked there active duty from 86-90 so what I say may very well be outdated. They had 7 stations at the time covering a base about 35 miles long. Lots of missile activity meaning lots of standbys during fueling/launching ops. Big airfield with no assigned aircraft except search/rescue helicopters. the personnel was about a 50-50 mix of civilian and military. They have their own dedicated hotshot crew. Being a missile/show base they always seemed to have a lot of money so things were pretty much top of the line. All in all, I had a great time and would go back if only the cost of living wasn't so outrageous!

I had sent her an email via the arff forum. I hadnt heard much back.
I had a long conversation with Chief Farias. He requested a letter of interest and a resume. Right now I'm just trying to weigh all my options. My other half lives in California. She doesn't love the idea of moving East.
Pratt & Whitney Fire is a great stepping stone but not a career maker. Unfortunately more and more of Pratt's business is going overseas. At one point there was 130 Firefighters at Pratt. now there is only 17 of us.
