    Default Training

How much do you train? We purchased a rit bag but have not done any training. We did a search pattern training one night but that is it. We also have wood for training props but have been told not to build any. Me and some of the other guys are thinking of doing some training on our own. Do you have any ideas?

My department has 2 FAST drills a month. They are usually "fast" - only taking 1 hour, 2 at most. We just do 1 skill each night, then every few times do a more indepth drill where we put everything together.

    Thing's we've trained on:
    -Large area search
    -Packaging a downed firefighter
    -TIC operations
    -Removal of a downed FF
-Rescue using ladder as a high point
    -Mask change overs
    -Repelling/Lowering a victim using ropes

And those are just things that come to mind right away.

sick: is it just FAST training that your short on or training in general?

Our career staff trains every shift, our call staff has training every monday night for 2 hours. The chief also tries to set-up a half-day training every other month or so.

Firehouse, fireengineering.com, and firefighterclosecalls.com. all have drills you can download. Go back to basic your FF1 book and skill sheets these always make a good training for everyone (wheather it's a refresher ot the first time someone is learning it).

    Good luck

Exactly, im sick of the lack of training. We act like badasses but never do anything. We let houses burn to the ground and wonder why that happens every time. We run around like chikens with our heads cut off at scenes and then do not train on what went wrong. Now we have a "rit." What a joke. All we have is a rit bag. It is just dumb and dangerous and i am sick of it.

st42stephenAFT, I'll "talk" slow so you understand.

efd1524's post yesterday had your name instead of sickofits. (that's why it's quoted in TheFireNut's post).

TheFireNut pointed out the error to efd1524.

efd1524 editted his post to have the correct name.

    - shouldn't you be in a class or something?
