Red face Oh crud!!! Did I just screw up?

Under the "Request Information" the application asks if "Will this grant benefit more than one organization?" I answered "yes" thinking about how our new SCBA compressor system and new pumper/tanker would be a huge asset to our mutual aid departments. This entire area is served by volunteer departments so any improvements to one of our departments helps everyone. Then I was working on another application for one of our mutual aid partners and I read the question again and thought Oh #$%@! Were they referring to regional grant requests? My applications were not regional requests. If that is how they interpret this question then my applications will surely be thrown out by the computer and all my effort will have been wasted. I should have asked this question before or called the AFG help desk but it really did not dawn on me that their interpretation of the question could be REGIONAL. I was thinking about interagency interoperability.

Can someone please tell me if I just blew it? Now I am assured a sleepless night of worry...

    Thank you for your help.

    Jon

I hope that you didn't screw up because if you did so did I. I don't think that question is related only to Regional. I think that they are looking for the fact that others will reap benefits under interoperability etc like you mention. At least that it how I took it.

Cool Oh dude you are so.........

Just kidding, the more people the award benefits the better. It should always benefit more than your department if it can.

As has been noted a few times already, your response was appropriate. Almost everything that we ask for through AFG should benefit more than one department. That is not just a regional thing. Sometimes you have to think outside the box but your benefits are also a benefit to your neighbors. Consider how your enhanced preparedness and safety will improve your operations and ability to provide mutual aid as well as deliver the services to your own community.

Agreed. Any equipment that will be available to your mutual aid departments is a good thing to note on your application, even if it's not a true regional grant. One of our mutual aid departments is about to get a ladder truck and they'll be the only department in the parish who has one. Therefore, even though the grant was applied for and the truck will be solely owned and operated by the one department, it will be available to all as mutual aid.

"I have a dream. It's not a big dream, it's just a little dream. My dream — and I hope you don't find this too crazy — is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

It's been hard to convince some of our neighbors to take our help in the grant process "because we're competing". I keep trying to communicate that if they get stuff, we get to use it 'cuz we all go to the same dances!! Benefit to them getting it--we play with it and they maintain it.

I had no problem convincing my neighboring departments to take our help. Wrote 16 grants this year with neighboring and not so neighboring departments. Glad its over.

Attack did you write one for your department also? According to this Grant "Expert" I know he stated that a successful grant writer only averages 1 out 0f 6 grants written are awarded. Based on that you better hope yours was the strongest.

If when you answered "YES", you also answered the PLEASED EXPLAIN box, then you did it properly.

Yeah I did the same thing. I called them and they said it was regional.

Our department was a winner of afg 07 last year. The grant was not a regional request and I answered yes to that same question last year and explained my answer in the second part of the question.

    No problems.
