My department is talking about starting an Arson Task Force and I wanted to know what are some things you need. Report templates, New technologies, tools, camera types. Anything to help organize an Arson Squad.
Thanx

There are lists of the bare essential items in NFPA 921, Kirk's, and several other fire investigation texts. If you are starting an arson squad, it isn't the best idea to have all rookie fire investigators assigned to it, so those experienced members will probably add items that they have found useful over the years.
Also, interfire has this list of the bare essentials to equip each investigator with.

On a joking side, call the ATF to a fire and pick-up the tools they ditch!

First and foremost, get your PPE. You can do everything else on a shoestring to start. But protecting your people is number 1.
Second thing is documentation tools. Good camera is a must.
Third evidence collection and preservation supplies. Your evidence is worthless unless you can properly preserve it and account for it.

FD...College Park, MD actually while attending school. I was an explorer with FLFR, and assisted with their FIU shadowing the Captain in charge for five years, as he is also the explorer advisor. Hence, why I have an increased interest in the investigation side of the fire service.
