Nearly 360 Departments Awarded $23 Million
Round Four Winners Announced

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has announced that 354 departments will receive $22,812,152 in the fourth round of FIRE Act grants.

As in the third round, grants focused on Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety.

Broken down, the categories included:

Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety, 303 grants, $19,464,854
Firefighting Vehicle, 27 grants, $2.398,395
Fire Prevention, 21 grants, $812,256
Emergency Medical Services, 3 grants, $136,647

So far in this fiscal year’s grant process, $76,973,652 has been awarded.

USFA must have grant awards totaling $150 million out the door by Sept. 30. That amount is allocated for FY 2002. Appropriations for FY 2003 added $210 million to that which USFA has pledged to distribute by the end of this calendar year.
