517 Departments Awarded $31 Million
Round Five Winners Announced

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) has announced that 517 departments will receive $31,067,253 in the fifth round of FIRE Act grants.

As in the fourth round, grants focused on Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety.

Broken down, the categories included:

Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety, 303 grants, $24.007,591.00
Firefighting Vehicle, 27 grants, $5.760,943.00
Fire Prevention, 21 grants, $1.203,331.00
Emergency Medical Services, 3 grants, $95,388.00

So far in this fiscal year’s grant process, $108.040,905.00 has been announced. At least $150 million has been 'obligated' as required by law before the end of September. Those departments are in the process and will be notified in the coming weeks.

The next round of grants will come quickly, with more than 600 departments 'announced' next week. A final date has not been set for that round.
