The Hattiesburg Fire Department is a multi-faceted emergency response agency with approximately 54 sq. miles of jurisdiction and a population of approximately 46,000. The department currently has 7 stations with plans being developed for a new station to be completed in early 2004. Staffing is at 100 personnel at this time, including 4 civilian positions. The department will begin a recruit academy in the near future with the plans to hire an additional 30 to 40 firefighters. The department is made up of several divisions including Administration, Combat, Fire Prevention, Public Fire Education and Training. The City of Hattiesburg is designated with a Class 4 fire protection rating.
