Sidney Volunteer Fire Department

Sidney Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 7500 people living in an area of 2000 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

The Sidney Fire Department was the ideals of 20 men who met on a cold January night in 1913. On that night it was decided the meeting would be held the first thursday night of each month, and it has remainded unchanged since that time. Our department currently consist of 34 members. City and Rural departments are run from the same Station House. We have 10 pieces of equipment in the hall along with Sidney's newest pieces of equipment, a Thermal Imaging Camera and a Jaws of Life. A select group Fire Department Members recently took a first Responder Class to better assist the Ambulance Service in vehicle crash accidents. This group of Fireman have been assisting the Ambulance Service with extrications for approximately 5 years.
