Hillsborough Township Fire Co. # 3 proudly protects 6000 people living in an area of 8 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
Hillsborough Township Fire Co. # 3 was formed during the summer of 1953 by 19 concerned citizens of Hillsborough Township. The Fire Company remains an entirely volunteer force, comprising 40 firefighters. Hillsborough Fire Co. # 3 is one of three fire companies located in the Township of Hillsborough. In addition, Neshanic Volunteer Fire Company, located in Branchburg Township, also provides coverage to a primarily rural section of the Township.
In addition to its primary coverage area, Hillsborough Fire Co. # 3 provides mutual aid during daytime hours to Hillsborough Fire Co. # 2. Mutual aid is also provided when requested to Montgomery Township Fire Co. # 1. Hillsborough Fire Co. # 3 is a member of the Somerset County southern tanker task force, whereby its 3,500 gallon tanker is dispatched to major fires within southern Somerset County that have no municipal water supplies.
Hillsborough Fire Co. # 3 firefighters get their initial training through the Somerset County Fire Academy and ongoing training through a combination of in-house training and drills. In addition, members supplement this training by attending various outside seminars and fire schools sponsored by Somerset County and other fire academies.
MEMBERSHIP Any Township resident living in the area bordered by Millstone River Road, Township Line Road, Amwell Road, and the Conrail railroad tracks is invited to become a volunteer firefighter. The Hillsborough Board of Fire Commissioners covers all training expenses. Membership information can be obtained by calling any officer at the fire house at 359-3333 or by contacting the Hillsborough Township Fire Safety Office at 369-4313. Interested individuals may also pick up a membership application at the Fire House on 324 Woods Road any Monday evening at 7:30 pm.
