Independence Fire District proudly protects 22000+ people living in an area of 45 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are a combination of paid and volunteer status.
Independence Fire District is a combination department made up of 35 career firefighters, 8 part time firefighters & 12 volunteer firefighers. We provide fire & advanced life support EMS for our protective territory. Our career firfighters work a 24/48 shift with 11 personnel on each shift supplimented by part time personnel. The Fire Chief's position is also a career job working a 8 hour shift 5 days a week. The Assistant Chief's position includes 8 hour days worked 5 days a week. Training sessions for both fire & EMS are held every Monday night except for holidays with training conducted by in house certified instructors or utilizing various state instructors through KY.Tech/Voc Ed. which provides training throughout the state for all Kentucky fire departments. Our primary air amubulance is provided by the University of Cincinnati.
