Friendship Fire Co. #2 of Mohnton, PA proudly protects 2900 people living in an area of 1.5 square miles. We operate out of one stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a private department whose members are on a volunteer status.
The Mohnton Fire Company, Berks County - Company 57, provides primary fire protection to the Borough of Mohnton and primary aerial support to neighboring Shillington Borough and Cumru, Brecknock and Spring townships. We currently have about 20 active volunteers on the Engine Crew, with final 2002 call volume estimated at just under 200. The Mohnton Fire Company was formed in 1914, and has operated continuously since then on properties at the corner of Mohn and East Summit Streets in Mohnton Borough. The current Engine House was built in 1973 and expanded to accommodate Ladder 57, along with the chiefs' office and training room, in 1992. Our Social Quarters building was erected in 1925, and has served many functions over the years, including almost 50 years as our Engine House, and many years as the Borough Hall, jail, and meeting place for a variety of civic organizations. For information on social membership, please see the information page on this site. Day-to-day firefighting operations are financed primarily through a combination of household donations, business donations, direct and indirect subsidies from the Borough of Mohnton, any surplus from the social quarters, and fund raisers conducted by the Engine Crew. Starting in FY2002, the Borough of Mohnton has arranged for significant additional support on an ongoing basis to upgrade our fleet, the average age of which stood at just over 25 years at the beginning of 2002. The Mohnton Fire Company would like to thank the community for its continued support, and we are always looking for interested volunteers to help out in many ways.
