Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 13000 people living in an area of 80 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
The Mosheim VFD is staffed by 23 volunteers covering western Greene County. Our response area is residential and we also cover Interstate 81 from the 17 mile marker to the 30 mile marker. In 1961, our department was the first volunteer fire department in Greene County. We respond to any request for assistance from other VFDs and also respond automatically with the neighboring Midway and Orebank VFDs on all structure fires and fire alarms. We currently have in our fleet four apparatus consisting of three tankers with a combined water capacity of 6,300 gallons and a 600 gpm mini-pumper. The department meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of every month at 7pm. Members receive training in house, locally at a host department on specialized subjects, and at the Tennessee State Fire School located in Murfreesboro. Training includes, but not limited to, CPR and First Aid, Hazardous Materials, Incident Command, Pump Operations, Med-Evac Landing Zone Preparation, Basic Vehicle Extrication Awareness, and a mixture of other firefighting instruction.
