Sturtevant Fire Department

The Sturtevant Fire Department was established in 1933. Back then all volunteers covered Sturtevant and the Town on Mount Pleasant. Known as the Sturtevant / Mount Pleasant Fire department. In 1960, the Town of Mount Pleasant created it own fire department and Sturtevant covered the village of Sturtevant. Today it remains the same. Because of urban sprawl from the city of Racine and other large cities volunteer fire departments are rapidly becoming dying breed in American society. It was not long before changes where on the horizon for the fire department. In 1998 the Sturtevant Fire Department made the transformation from all volunteer to fully paid department under the direction of Director of Public Safety (DPS) Arthur M. Scola. DPS Scola spent 33 years in the city of Racine Fire Department and the last (10) ten years as the Training Chief. DPS Art Scola also heads up the Village of Sturtevant Police Department. He is the responsible for the operation of both the Fire & Police Department. The Village of Sturtevant has (9) nine full-time firefighter / paramedics Today the Fire Department is Staffed full time; 24 hours a day 7 days a week. There are 3 full time firefighter/paramedics that work 24 hours on, 48 hours off and 2 part-time firefighter/EMT's work from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM. All full time firefighters are required to be licensed at the paramedic level. The Fire Department operates out of one fire station located at 2801 89th street in Sturtevant and responds to nearly 800 calls per year
