Shavers Fork Fire Rescue proudly protects 6000 people living in an area of 20 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily commercial area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. We have an ISO rating of 7. Shavers Fork Fire Rescue is located at Snowshoe Mountain Resort, Snowshoe West Virginia. Snowshoe, long known as "The Island In The Sky," is the largest destination ski resort in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. Comprised of two resorts, the Snowshoe/Silvercreek complex consists of 11,000-acres. At 4848 feet above sea level, Shavers Fork Fire Rescue is the highest department in the east. Sub-zero winter temperatures, over 220 inches of snowfall and annual skier visits of 450,000 keep the men and women of SFFR busy year around. A vast portion of our response area is dominated by the 900,000 acre Monongahela National Forest. Within this immense forest are hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails and backroads. Shavers Fork works closely with the United States Forest Service and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources protecting this valuable resource. Shavers Fork Fire Rescue provides Fire, Rescue, Haz-Mat, Dirt Bike Response Team,High Angle,Technical, Swift Water and Cave Rescue and ALS first Responder and Ambulance Service to the resort and county.
