Boulevard Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department proudly protects 3000 people living in an area of 99 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
Boulevard Fire & Rescue is an all volunteer department located in the rural east San Diego County mountains aprox. 65 miles east of downtown San Diego along the U.S./Mexico border, off Hwy. 8. This influences our call volume due to the high temperatures in the summer and extreme cold, ice and snow in the winter. We are part of the Zone 8 volunteer fire departments. San Diego County does not have a county fire dept., so the volunteers are all some residents have for fire and medical help in an emergency. We are a basic life support (BLS)agency. We are certified by our county EMS agency to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Our advanced life support (ALS) is provided by American Medical Response units Medic-29 and Medic-17. With the closest hospital 45 mins. Away and the closest trauma center over an hour away, critical patients are airlifted by medical helicopters from either Critical Air or Mercy Air, with the helicopters being dispatched on a rotational basis.
