In October of 2008 we began staffing our busiest station located in down town Wasilla. Our night shift duty crew hours are 18:00 - 06:00. The crew is staffed with a minimum of four personnel, one engineer, one officer and two advanced firefighters. At least two members of the crew are rescue certified. We respond to over 3700 Fire, Rescue, and EMS calls each year. Our EMS division is the largest and busiest in the borough. Two ALS ambulances are staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week year round with a third ambulance staffed during peak times. In addition to ACLS ambulances Central has lead the way with implementation of the MEDIC-1 program. MEDIC -1 is a rapid response command vehicle staffed by a mobile intensive care Paramedic. MEDIC - 1 acts as shift supervisor and provider of advanced level skills such as surgical airways and other advanced level treatments above and beyond the scope of the state EMT-3 level. They are able to respond dynamically to any call within our jurisdiction as well as to requests from outlying areas without being assigned and dedicated to one ambulance crew. This flexibility has proven invaluable to quality patient care and maximizes the departments resources.
