Bristol Fire Department proudly protects approximately 22000 people living in an area of 10 square miles. We operate out of 5 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
We respond to approximately 3,000 calls per year from 4 fire stations and 1 rescue station. Our front-line apparatus includes 4 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Special Hazards, 3 Rescues and a Marine Unit. In addition to protecting the approximately 22,000 citizens of Bristol, we also protect over 15 miles of coastline, as well as over 4,000 students at Roger Williams University. Bristol is also home to many industrial companies, particularly boat building. Our department has approximately 300 volunteers, life members and auxiliary members. The town also utilizes a private ambulance company, stationed in Bristol, for 24-hour paramedic level coverage in tandem with the rescue squad.
