Greetings from Abilene, a city located near the center of the great state of Texas. We welcome you to our home on the internet and invite you to browse our web site to learn about our department, the services we provide, safety ideas, and many more topics of interest. The Abilene Fire Department was officially organized in 1886 by a handful of residents who wished to address Abilene's fire protection needs. It served as a city service as well as a social club creating a "family" made up of firefighters, children, wives, and other citizens. Today, our department is staffed by 171 civil service and six support personnel. The department has changed a lot over the years, but we still have a family relationship among our members that still work very hard to serve the 115,000 people living within Abilene's 112 square miles. Our mission is to provide responsible emergency services to the citizens of Abilene. These services encompass all environmental hazards, both natural and man-made. Emergency services are provided via the utilization of quality employees, teamwork, training and equipment. Additional protection of a less visible nature includes code review, fire safety education, fire prevention, and other emergency activities.
