Gates County Rescue Squad was formed in 1964 by a group of gentlemen who were concerned with the well-being of the citizens of Gates County. This thought come about one day when a search was organized to locate a missing child. This incident ended in prompting for the group's formation. Until the organization of the rescue squad, all medical emergencies were transported by local funeral coaches. Since that time we have grown to have three ambulances and one heavy rescue truck. We currently run from one centralized station located on Hwy 158 at Eason's Crossroads. Gates County has a population of about 10,000 over a 341 square mile coverage area. The squad currently has 34 active duty members and provides both Basic and Advance Life Support to the citizens and visitors of Gates County. We can transport patients to five (5) area hospitals including Obici Memorial in Suffolk, VA- Chowan Hospital in Edenton, NC- Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City,NC- Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie,NC- Southampton Memorial in Franklin, VA.
