Ruidoso Downs Fire Department proudly protects 3000 people living in an area of 5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that primarily protects a residential area located in the urban interface . Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status. The department is stuctured by a DPS organization. The department is led into action by the Battalion Fire Chief who is a career member of the department. We mutal-aid the Ruidoso Fire Department, Glencoe Fire Department and the Mescalero Apache Tribe Fire Department. We also assist the New Mexico State Forestry and the U.S Forest Service. The department has 23 Volunteer Professionals and 3 paid personnel.
