New Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department

New Fairfield Fire Department proudly protects 13000 people living in an area of 25.8 square miles. We operate out of 3 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public charity whose members are on a volunteer status.

The town is bordered by New York state to the west, Candlewood Lake to the east, the town of Sherman to the north, and the City of Danbury to the south. The town is bi-sected by state routes 37 & 39 running North and South. Scores of summmer cottages have been converted to year-round dwellings as the poulation grows with seasonal residents. Our department is an independent corporation compromised of three Fire Companies. The three Companies have approximately 80 active members in total. There are no paid positions in the fire department. The department is managed by an elected Chief and 13 member Board of Directors. Jointly with the town, the three companies own 6 fire engines, 3 tankers, 1 brush truck, 1 rescue truck, 2 ambulances, 2 boats, and other miscellaneous apparatus. The town has established mutaual aid response agreements with all surrounding towns including Fairfield County, CT, Putnam County, NY. The town has a contract with Danbury Hospital for daytime EMT & full-time Paramedic Services. The Fire Service is funded through tax dollars, fund raising efforts, and community donations.
