The South Haven Fire Department is a combination POC department with 6 full time employees who are members of Local 3151, IAFF, and 30 volunteers. We operate 2 ALS ambulances (1 manned 24,7 and 1 volunteer)2 engine companies, a heavy recue company, 1 tanker, a brush truck and two four wheel drive support vehicles. Our primary response area is unincorporated Portage Township. We also run mutual aid with the City of Portage Fire Department on their Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, and for ambulance service. South Haven was the first volunteer department in Indiana to have an ALS ambulance service, and also among the first to have hydraulic rescue tools.
