Situated at the begining of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the Town of Bourne is roughly shaped like an upside down "L." We cover approximatley 44 square miles and the town is divided by the Cape Cod Canal. All traffic on or off Cape Cod must pass over one of two traffic bridges or the railroad bridge which are all situated in Bourne. Bourne subdivides into 8 major villages (Buzzards Bay, Bourne, Monument Beach, Pocasset, Catuamet, Bourndale, Sagamore & South Sagamore. The Department provides both inspectional services and emergency response which include Fire Supression, Advanced Life Support Ambulance Transport, Techical Rescue, Water and Dive Rescue, Haz-Mat, Vehicle Extrication among many others. We serve a year round population of approximately 22,000 and 45,000 during tourist season. Being Cape Cod is a tourist destination, all traffic traveling onto the cape must pass through the town. Additional Service issues include: we have 2 major highways that pass through the town and a waterway (the Cape Cod Canal) that has a large amount of passenger and shipping traffic that also passes through the town. We serve 2 nursing facilities, a county prison, large assisted living facility and a military reservation.
