Kilbourn Fire Department proudly protects 7600 people living in an area of 210 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
Formed in 1891, the KFD is a completely unpaid volunteer fire department. We consist of 3 Companies: Company 1 = city fires; Company 2 = rural fires; Company 3 = rescue (med. emergencies, auto accidents, search & rescue, & rope/ice/water rescue). Our membership includes 34 active and 52 retired members. As a popular tourist area, the local population frequently swells to over 100,000 in the summer months.
