Cohanzie Fire Department

Cohanzie Fire Department proudly protects 20,000 people living in an area of 37.0 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.

The Cohanzie Fire Department is comprised of over 300 members of which 40 are active, and the remainder are life or inactive members. We are located in Southeastern Connecticut off of I-95. We are one of 5 fire departments within the Town of Waterford and are classified at ISO 3. We provide fire, rescue, and medical care to the citizens of the town, and provide mutual aid to other departments, and other towns. Within our district we also provide protection for the Waterford Speedbowl which is a 1/3 mile NASCAR race track. We provide this service through the Cohanzie Fire Service Benefit Association, which is a private entity from within. We are dedicated men and women who strive for perfection in all aspects of the service and are committed to providing fire protection which is second to none.
