Lewiston Fire Department (Idaho)

The Lewiston Fire Dept has a total call volume of approximately 6500 incidents. Services provided are fire suppression, transport ALS EMS, Aircraft rescue and firefighting, vehicle extrication, water rescue, Regional hazardous materials response, public education and rescue services. EMS is delivered to the City of Lewiston, City of Clarkston Washington, NezPerce County Idaho, Asotin County Washington and Whitman County FD #14 in Whitman County Washington. Fire suppression is only inside the city limits of Lewiston or at the request of a mutual aid partner. The Prevention Bureau performs inspections, investigations, blasting monitoring, and plan reviews. We have a 3 platoon system with a 56 hour week. Shifts work 24 on, 24 off for 10 days (5 shifts) then have 6 day Kelly days. Each shift is led by a Battalion Chief and each station is led by a Captain. Like many departments we are understaffed. There are 2 personnel per Ambulance and 2-3 personnel per Engine Company. IAFF Local 1773 is the Union for BC's, Captains, Engineers, Firefighters and Inspectors. We have 3 front line engines and 3 front line ambulances. We have 2 reserve engines, and 4 reserve ambulances. Personnel cross-man a rescue vehicle and Truck Company. IAFF 1773 maintains an authentic Ford Model T fire truck for PR purposes. We have mutual aid with Clarkston, WA; Asotin, WA; Pullman, WA; Moscow, ID, Asotin County Fire District #1 and Potlatch Corporation FD.
