Verona Fire Department

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: Verona F.D. is alloted a staff of 40 Firefighters comprised of 2 full-time Firefighter/Inspectors and 1 full-time Inspector/Ass't. Chief, that work Mon.-Fri. The remaining staff are paid-on-call. Department Apparatus consists of 2 Engines, 1 Quint, 1 Heavy Rescue, 2 Tankers, 1 Brush Truck, 1 ATV, 1 Utility/Brush/Pick-up Truck & 1 Sedan. The Verona F.D. protects the Verona Fire District which is comprised of the City of Verona, Town of Verona and a portion of the Town of Springdale. The Verona F.D. is a part of the Dane County MABIS and most recently piloted an "Automatic Aid" response process with the Fitchburg, Oregon and Town of Madison Fire Departments. It is anticipated that this process will soon be extended to other agencies in the County. DEPARTMENT OFFICER STRUCTURE CONSISTS OF: a Chief, Deputy Chief, 2-Ass't. Chiefs, 2-Captains & 2-Lieutenants. Each apparatus is assigned a Foreman to oversee basic maintenance and routine equipment inspection/inventory. V.F.D. ALSO HAS AN ASSOCIATION MADE UP OF A: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Association handles the social aspect of agency activities including some fund raising. EXPLORER POST: V.F.D. also is a co-sponsor of a Public Safety Explorer Program with the Verona Police Department and Fitch-Rona EMS. FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR: At the Department's Annual Awards Recognition Ceremony in January; Firefighter Edward Atkinson was selected as "Firefighter of the Year" for 2003. CITIZEN ACADEMY: VFD held its first ever Citizen Fire Academy this past September and October. The academy was highly successful leading to a couple of the attendees applying to join our department. Attendees will be formally recognized at our annual awards ceremony in January 2005. See above tabs for further details on Verona Fire Department.
