Marathon Volunteer Fire Department

Marathon Volunteer Fire Department serves 2,800 square miles in Brewster County, Texas for fire, rescue and first response. Our population is less than 1,000 persons but we have over 250,000 tourist per year. Major routes into Mexico and the Union Pacific rail road bring many different types of hazards to our small department. In addition our wildland fires may burn for days as in the Cook Ranch fire that burned 78,000 acres in 2000. Heavier than normal rainfall in 2004 is promising a lively fire season in 2005.
