Rhems Volunteer Fire Department

Rhems Volunteer Fire Department proudly protects 6,000 people living within an area of approximately 45 square miles. We operate out of two stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status. The Rhems Vol. Fire Department was formed in 1976. We began with one 1976 Darley 750 Pumper, a worn out gas truck and a surplus Army Jeep. Today, 28 years later, we have 7 pieces of modern fire fighting apparatus. The most recent purchase being a 2004 double cab, five-passenger top mounted 1250 pumper/tanker. Our three bay main station is located on Hwy 17 south and our two bay building is located within the Town of River Bend. In 1998, we began running Medical First Responders. They ran over 300 calls in their first year of operation responding in an old bread truck. Today, they respond in their 2001 model rescue vehicle. This growth was made possible by the determination of our personnel and the support of our community.
