Grayling City and Township Fire Dept

Grayling City and Township Fire Dept proudly protects 10000 people living in an area of 180 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily rural area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.

The Grayling City and Township Fire Dept covers 180 square miles within Crawford CO in North Central lower Michigan. Coverage area includes the City of Grayling, Camp Grayling Military Reservation, and Grayling Township. Our current staffing includes 22 firefighters to include officers. We are the primary response for 26 miles of State and Interstate Trunklines passing through our jurisdiction. Equipment response includes 2 class A pumpers carrying 1100 gallons of water each, with 2 tankers carrying approx 1500 gallons of water. Wet hydrants are only available within 2 sq miles in the center of our jurisdiction. We have installed dry hydrants at various locations within out township coverage area to faciltate tanker replenishment. We also have a pickup truck dedicated to pumping water to refill tankers. A rescue truck holding 5 passengers is used for rescue calls, we carry all extracation equipment within the vehicle.
