Goodwill Fire Co.#1 of Hyde Park (Muhlenberg Twp.) proudly protects 17000 people living in an area of 14.5 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
The fire company was established in 1907. The stations were built in 1955(Hyde Park) and 1999(Riverview Park). Muhlenberg Twp. is a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. It has approx. 17,000 residents at night and 60,000+ during the day. Our primary protection areas include College Heights, Hyde Park, Muhlenberg Park, Riverview Park, and Tuckerton. We supply mutual-aid to the City of Reading, the Boro of Laureldale, and other surrounding areas. The Goodwill Fire Company was the first of only 2 Berks County fire companies to take part in the Certification Participation Program. This is a PA state program recognizing a company's percentage of FF's certified to a minimum of FFI. We received a Bronze award for 50% participation.
