Tazewell-New Tazewell Fire Department proudly protects 5000 people living in an area of 15 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a paid on call status.
A unique department serving 2 independent cities, and an airport. TNTFD is a very aggressive department using the No Fear motto with a strong belief in offensive attack. The TNTFD works closely with other county fire departments in training, with the Tennessee Division of Forestry in wildfires and Claiborne County Emergency Management Agency in hazardous materials operations and communications. Tazewell and New Tazewell is located in East Tennessee 40 miles northeast of Knoxville. Tazewell is an incorporated city of mainly residential areas. New Tazewell is also an incorporated city which has most of the industry for Claiborne County. Furniture, Textiles and Durable and Disposible Medical Supplies are the major industries. New Tazewell is serviced by Norfolk-Southern Railway. Two major highways intersect in Tazewell, US 25E and SR33, these roads are traveled by hazardous materials carriers daily. TNTFD has no hazardous materials team or technical rescue teams, but we have agreements with Rural Metro of Tennessee and Knoxville Volunteer Rescue Squad for these services.
