Man Dead, Firefighter in Intensive Care Unit After Ky. Fire

A 46-year-old man died in a house fire that also injured a firefighter who is being treated in the intensive care unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

April 29--PAINTSVILLE -- A man is dead following a fire early Sunday morning.

Paintsville 911 received a call shortly after midnight, reporting a house fire at 1120 Short Street. Once firefighters arrived on the scene and began attacking the fire, they discovered the body of John W. Meade, 46, inside the home.

Meade was transported to Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby.

A firefighter was also injured in the blaze. The firefighter, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.

The incident is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Pikeville. Units assisting on scene included Kentucky State Police Detective Jason Dials, Trooper Rodney Pratt, KSP Arson Investigator Randy Gabbard, Deputy State Fire Marshal Dave Broderick, Paintsville Fire Department, West Van Lear Fire Department, Paintsville EMS, Paintsville Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, and the Johnson County coroner's office.
