The Apparatus Architects: Maximizing Scrub Areas, Refurb Standards and POVs

Aug. 4, 2010

Tom Shand and Michael Wilbur review several recent accidents involving personal vehicles (POVs) and look at ways to reduce the problem.

The Apparatus Architects examine several topics this month, including designing ladder trucks to maximize the scrub area and how to create a serpentine course for emergency vehicle operations testing. They detail the NFPA standards for refurbishing fire apparatus to answer a listener question.

Shand and Wilbur also discuss the addition of smaller vehicles to help reduce the purchase costs and fuel and maintenance budgets.

Check back on Sept. 7 for the third annual "Apparatus Architects: Manufacturers Roundtable" podcast from Firehouse Expo.
