New Technology for First Responders

Oct. 4, 2012

The nationally accredited Leamington Fire Services Department, located in the province of Ontario, Canada, today announced its plan to implement CommandScope™ All Hazard Pre-Incident Plan program. CommandScope, developed by RealView LLC of Chicago, IL, gives first responders access to critical pre-plan information, both on-site and en route on their Mobile Data Computers (MDC’s), which includes maps, photographs, utility shutoff locations, floor plans, fire protection systems, hazardous material information, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), emergency lockdown procedures, and much more.

“Our goal is to implement an easy-to-use, municipal-wide system that will allow all of our emergency personnel to have immediate access to the valuable data they need when responding to a call,” said Chuck Parsons, Leamington’s Fire Chief. “CommandScope will save us critical minutes that could save lives. The latest building data will be instantly available on mobile devices in our vehicles so we can coordinate our efforts to quickly and efficiently take action.”

The Leamington Fire Services Department provides a full range of services to the citizens of Leamington, including but not limited to, Public Education, Fire Prevention, Emergency Fire and Rescue Services. The department responds to the 238 square kilometers that is the combined area of the former Town of Leamington and the former Township of Mersea. Chief Parsons has already trained a number of personnel to use CommandScope.

“When first responders get to a building, even if they’ve never stepped foot in it before, CommandScope will give them a snapshot of what they’re walking into,” said Nelson Lawrence of Global Risk Innovations, Inc. of Toronto Canada, the RealView LLC Canadian representative. “Command Scope will arm first responders with the ability to access the critical building details they need to save lives and assure less property damage.”

The building information gathered and updated by the Leamington Fire Department will be accessible to fire safety professionals, mutual aid responders, the local Office of Emergency Management, and hazardous materials response units.

CommandScope is utilized by fire and police departments, municipalities, utility companies, office/industrial properties, hotels, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and college campuses across 21 states and Canada.  Designed with best-of-breed technology, CommandScope’s technical standards adhere to the requirements of both the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Incident Management System (NIMS), which is a template of procedures developed to execute a multifaceted rescue plan to save victims of unforeseen catastrophes.
