The Tess Corners Fire Department, located in Muskego, Wisconsin recently placed a new Pierce Saber Rescue/Engine in service. The new unit is a twin to another Pierce Saber that has been in service since 1996.
The new engine will standardize equipment carried, operation and training-- as the two units are nearly identical. One unit will be housed at each of the two Tess Corners Fire Stations, serving as the "first-out" unit for fire calls, auto accidents and special rescue responses.
Designed as a multi-role response vehicle, the engine has seating for six Firefighters and is extensively equipped with firefighting, rescue and emergency medical implements including breathing apparatus, thermal imaging camera, foam system, 8 kilowatt generator, hydraulic rescue tools or "Jaws of Life", rope and water rescue gear.
Purchase of the $288,000 vehicle was made through the Capital Budget process. Built by Pierce Manufacturing of Appleton, Wisconsin, the engine is based on the Saber Chassis, which is a "Purpose Built" Chassis, designed specially for the fire service. This platform is expected to yield a service life of over 20 years to the citizens of Muskego.
