The Haworth Volunteer Fire Department took delivery of a new 2002 Ford F-250 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup on April 23, 2002. This unit was then equipped with a 9 hp Darley Davey pump, a 200 gallon fiberglass tank, Hanney electric hose reel w/150' of 3/4" booster hose, a TFT ProPak foam unit, Code 3 LP6000 lightbar, Gall's StreetThunder Deluxe Siren w/lighting controls, Gall's 100 watt StreetThunder speaker, two Streamlight Litebox handlights, two Unity halogen spotlights, Gall's 3-in-1 Smart Flasher Unit (wig-wags), and a Motorola M1225 VHF radio.
Designated as "Truck-3", this unit is the HVFD's primary wildland firefighting vehicle.
The truck and equipment were purchased with funding acquired through a variety of sources. The majority of funding was provided by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs. The HVFD was awarded an $18,000 grant through the BIA's "Rural Fire Assistance" program. In addition, local corporate donations were provided by the Weyerhaeuser Company ($2,000), Plum Creek Foundation ($2,500), and Herron Industries ($1,000). The remainder of funding was obtained by the Haworth Volunteer Firefighters Association through refinancing an existing loan.
