On December 27, Fire District 4 and Fire District 12 in Mandeville, La. responded to a residential structure fire. Initial dispatch consisted of two pumps, two ambulances, heavy rescue, hose tender, and a 50' ladder.
Knowing the water supply was non-existent in the area, two additional pumps were requested once the initial pump arrived on scene. The on scene officer reported flames through the roof.
The rear of the residence was fully involved when fire department personnel arrived.
The Dove Park area has no existing hydrant system or water supply available.
Initially 5,000 gallons of water was used from the pumps arriving on scene.
Water from the swimming pool was used while the pumps pulled water from a pond (2 miles away) off Dove Park road.
Fire District 12 arrived on scene with 10,000 gallons at 13:25 which provided ample water to control the fire.
The state fire marshal assisted in the investigation of the cause and origin of the fire which is still undetermined.
