On "Black" Friday - November 23 at 1444 Hrs. the Christiana Fire Company responded to the Georgetown Village Apartments - 260 Christiana Road - Bldg "I" for a report of a building fire with subjects trapped.
Just prior to the fire department's arrival a subject jumped from a Third Floor apartment window, resulting in a leg Injury.
The First arriving Engine and Truck crews were met with heavy smoke and fire on the Number 2 floor, fire was rapidly spreading to the third floor and cockloft.
Crews deployed multiple hand lines and conducted an aggressive interior search of the building with negative results.
Five neighboring mutual aid companies arrived to assist with ventilation, extinguishment, overhaul and Rapid Intervention responsiblities, bringing the fire "Under Control" within 30 minutes.
Due to the efforts of all responding companies the fire was contained to two apartments. However; nine other apartments sustained smoke and water damage, causing 11 families to be displaced.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist them with emergency housing.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
