Pennsylvania Firefighters Battle Building Fire

Story/Photos by Teresa Wolfe

On Friday November 23rd at 1416 hrs. the Pleasant Hall Vol. Fire Comapny was dispatched to 11506 Mountain Road for a building fire at a local Saw Mill.

Apon arrival, Engine 112 (PHVFC), found a large pavilion style building fully involved had already collapsed on top of a large pile of saw dust.

Once on scene Deputy Chief 11 Tom Rine had established command and requested two additional tankers to respond.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire to one area and keep it from spreading to an adjacent pile of saw dust and a large log pile.

A water supply was established at a pond located approximately 3 miles from the scene. Most water supplies close to the scene were low due to the lack of rainfall.

After declaring the fire under control Deputy Chief 11 held Eng.112 & Amb.118 (Pleasant Hall), Eng.15-1 (WEFR), Eng's 152, 252 & Tanker 52 (Vigilant Hose), Eng.251 & Tanker 51 (Newburg Hopewell) and Tanker 13 (Letterkenny Army Depot) for another two hours for overhaul operations.

The fire is believed to have started from a gas line rupture in a piece of machinery in the building.

No injuries were reported.
