Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to The Bungalow Apartments in the White Rock
lake section of the city early in the morning of January 21st. The first
arriving companies reported a downstairs unit well involved and fire quickly
extending to the upper floor and attic. Early efforts to knock down the
flames were hampered by the design of the two-story apartment complex in
which the fire building was facing a volleyball court. A second alarm was
called quickly and a third was added later for manpower.
Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and managed to contain the
fire damage to three of the building's eight units. The other five units
suffered varying degrees of smoke and water damage. Investigators
determined that an electrical short in the downstairs bedroom caused the
fire and an estimated $241,000 in damage.
A standard three alarm response in Dallas is nine engines, five trucks, four
battalion chiefs, two rescue ambulances and a deputy chief in command.
Red Cross was on scene to help the displaced residents and the Box 4 Fire
Buffs Association responded in their canteen truck to help with rehab. No
injuries were reported.
