Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey Firefighters Battle Multi-Alarm Blaze

Story & Photos by DENNIS SHARPE

A quick moving multi-alarm fire destroyed the oldest section of the Towne 16 movie theater in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey on September 28, 2002.

The theater, which had 4 screening rooms, was built in the 1960's without any fire suppresion systems.

An EHT police officer spotted heavy smoke coming from the structure about 11:30 hours and notified dispatch who activated the Cardiff and Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Companies.

Chief Tom Nace of the BVFC was first to arrive and requested a second alarm, follwed by a general alarm, bringing all EHTFD firefighters and equipment to the scene.

The fire was brought under control about 13:30 hours and the cause is being investigated by the EHTFD.
