District of Columbia Firefighters Knock Down Apartment Fire

On Friday, October 11, 2002 at 12:43p units were dispatched on the report of a building fire in the 700 block of Newton Place, NW.

Engines 11 & 4 and Truck 6 arrived to find fire on side 1, with heavy smoke throughout the three-story brick building.

Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack on the fire, which was spreading through the apparently abandoned building. The fire was knocked down quickly; searches for victims were negative. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
