Cleveland, OH Bravest Fight Fatal Apartment Fire

Around 0500 hours on Friday October 18, 2002 fire Crews were dispatched to a report of fire at West 46 & Lorain Avenue.

Upon arrival Engine 4 reported heavy fire on the 2nd floor of a 2 story brick apartments. The apartments were located above several businesses in the center of 3 units.

Battalion Chief 4 arrived on the scene and the decision was made to strike a 2-2-2 Alarm due to the heavy body of fire. Fire quickly spread to a second attached structure (to the East). The fire was also through the roof.

Companies on scene and working were: Engines 4, 2, 24, 20, 23, Ladders 4, 20, 23, 1, Squads 2, 4, 1, Air Supply 1, Unit 734 (Mobile Maintenance), Battalion 4, 2, Assistant Chief 1, Car 164 (Chief of Department) and others.

Ladder 1 had their platform up and flowing beside Ladder 4's ladder pipe. They used numerous hand lines, 2 deck guns and 2 Squirts.

Two victims were removed, 1 in Critical condition, 1 DOA.
