Briaroaks, Texas Firefighters Battle Mobile Home Fire

Story/Photos by WAYNE TOMBLINSON

At 6:30 pm Friday 9/27/02. the Briaroaks VFD was dispatched to a structure fire at the 4600 block of E. Renfro, a rural area in Johnson County, Texas.

On their way to the scene, a thick column of black smoke was observed.

They dispatched a 2nd, 3rd and 4th alarm knowing that in a rural area their major problem would be water.

Upon arrival at the scene they found a single-wide mobile home with a large room addition totally involved.

Briaroaks had 2 engines and one grass truck.

The second alarm was the Keene VFD which arrived with one engine.

Briaroaks' second engine had set up a ground water holding tank for all the other engines and tankers to dump extra water into.

The 3rd alarm unit consisting of a Burleson FD tanker truck arrived followed by a Keene VFD tanker truck and the engine from the Alva rado FD.

The fire was declared out by 8:00 pm with an additional 2 1/2 hours for mop up.

A total of 20 volunteer and paid Fire-fighters responded to the incident.

The mobile home was totally destroyed.
