Bravest Knock Down Manchester, CT House Fire

Story/Photos by DARRELL ROCH

At roughly 1930 on October 24 2002, Manchester 8th Utilities District received a call from the neighbor of 358 Adams St reporting a working structure fire.

The first units on scene confirmed the report and quickly retuned the department for additional manpower. The fire was in a 2 1/2 story wood frame house and appeared to start on the first floor.

The first occupant was able to escape the fire. A second was later found in the rear of the building. Both were transported to Manchester Hospital.

The fire was quickly knocked down, but during the overhaul the floor from the second floor fell on one of the firefighters and everyone was ordered to evacuate the building.

During this time the fire worked its way into the second floor and the up into the attic.

Firefighters using an area scope knocked down the fire in the attic and then went on to overhaul the rest of the building. It is reported that both occupants of the building are doing ok.
